The Society of St Columba is a new monastic community rooted in the heart of the Sussex South Downs. As a community we are seeking to encounter Christ in community and creation. Work on preparing Great Barn Farm as our new monastic home has begun, shepherding sheep, farmers markets, community lambing, clearing fields, preparing the ground for market gardening, prayer, community work days, retreats and pilgrimages and so much more all require an eye for detail and some co-ordination.
These are exciting times for us and we are grateful to God that the prayer and the work of the community is growing. We are receiving a lot of interest from good hearted people who want to come and take part in the life that is emerging at Chanctonbury. We recognise that we need of a part time community co-ordinator, to help us bring some order to the burgeoning activities. Once we have secured the funding we will then publish the job spec and start the recruitment process.
Therefore we are asking all our followers, supporters, well wishers and participants to consider contributing a small and regular amount of money to the Society. We are not adverse to receiving one-off donations either if you would prefer. These small and regular contributions will create a sustainable income for the community, that in turn will allow us to plan long term for the growth of the activities and ensure we are focussing on the quality of the work and maximising volunteers and visitors experiences when they are with us. We are in this for the long haul, no short termism, just the steady work of encountering Christ in community and creation.
Our target is to raise a sustainable £10,000 per annum for this part time role. If we had 40 people giving £20 a month and linking that to Gift Aid, we would more than exceed our target.
